Born on 6th August 1990, Scott Jamieson is an Edinburgh based drummer originally from Aberdeenshire. After graduating Edinburgh Napier University with a BA in Popular Music in June 2013, Scott has continued to develop his musical career to involve very regular gigs around Scotland and further afield.

At the age of 10, Scott began taking lessons from local drum tutor Simon Abbott in his hometown Inverurie. Simon skilfully led Scott through the fundamental skills of drumming, up to achieving distinction in Trinity Drum Kit Grade 6 in the space of 4 years. He also had an impact on some of Scott’s listening habits that are still present today, introducing artists like Steely Dan, Earth Wind and Fire and James Brown.

Around the age of 13, Scott began to play with various local bands, covering genres such as funk, rock, jazz and metal. His first studio experience was at age 14, working alongside producer Gavin Sutherland (co-writer of Rod Stewart’s ‘Sailing’) to record a 4 track funk/rock EP. He was involved in a tour of Sweden and multiple Scottish festival appearances with various local ceilidh rock bands before moving south to Edinburgh.

As he matured and progressed throughout university, his playing and taste developed to focus not only on incorporating technically proficient performances, but playing that was aware of important style characteristics such as dynamics, tone, feel and groove. Scott’s playing draws influence from drummers such as Benny Greb, Jojo Mayer, John Riley, Mark Guiliana, Vinnie Colaiuta, Keith Carlock, Jack DeJohnette, Robert Searight, Eric Harland and many, many more.

Scott co-formed jazz fusion project ‘Slow Gear‘ with guitarist Frazer Knox, as a co-composer as well as drummer and is also currently working on solo compositions featuring strong contemporary jazz elements. He is a regular face amongst the Edinburgh jazz/funk scene, having performed with ‘Jacob’s Heep‘, ‘The Katet‘, ‘Brass Gumbo‘, ‘Pocion de Fe‘ and with Aki Remally’s ‘Future Heroes’ as a weekly residence at ‘The Jazz Bar’.
